About us

Forty years in rooms with leaders.

Jan P. Hagberg created SGL — Situational Group Leadership — and wrote it down over four decades as a leadership developer. Independent, practical, global. Powered by people, not politics or profit.

In his own words

I studied theology at the University of Oslo and have worked as a journalist, editor, pastor and author. At 48, I became a government fellow in leadership, later moving into leadership development for oil companies and various high-tech firms. And that's become the tour that brings me here today.

It all started by chance. As the editor of a magazine, I used to lecture young students on practical journalism — until one moment when I noticed that everyone was fully engaged. Later, over lunch, I overheard students discussing the colours I had used to separate and adapt messages for different goals. That moment was an eye-opener. It became the foundation for the colour language in SGL.

My concern is that anyone who influences their own work situation exercises leadership. That means the vast majority of us.

The books

  • Leadership and group development — especially through the SGL methodology, which he created and described in his work as a leadership developer.
  • Personal and group development, psychology, and life experience — reflections on pain, hope and human growth.
  • Church, faith, and existential questions — theology and Christian reflection are central in several of his early books.
  • Social issues — bullying and learning difficulties, presented with strong documentary content in A Year in Ellen’s Life.

About us 2 · 40 years with SGL

SGL-Roots: our history and our clients.

Kreativitetshuset AS in Sandvika has been the home of the work for four decades — courses, workshops, lectures and some fifteen hundred supervisory conversations. The methodology was never written for a shelf; it was written down from what happened in the rooms.

Not all knowledge leads to change, but no change without knowledge.
